    On Friday, December, 9, 2016 officers were dispatched to a 911 call from a female claiming that Carlton Bragg had struck her and pushed her down stairs.  Upon arriving to the 1000 block of Emery Road, officers made contact with Saleeha Soofi.  Soofi claimed that she was in an argument with Bragg in a stairwell and during the argument, Bragg punched her and shoved her down the stairs.  The officers photographed an injury to Soofi’s elbow.  Later that morning Bragg was interviewed and acknowledged he was involved in an argument with Soofi but he denied striking her.

    District Attorney Charles Branson announces that Carlton E. Bragg, 20, has been charged with one count of battery in Douglas County District Court.  Kansas statute defines battery as knowingly or recklessly causing bodily harm to another person; or in the alternative knowingly causing physical contact with another person when done in a rude, insulting or angry manner.  It is a class B person misdemeanor punishable by a fine and or jail time up to six months.

    Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announces that Jon J. Myers, 18, had a first appearance today at 3:30 p.m. in the Pro Tem Division of the Douglas County District Court.  Myers is charged with sexual battery and aggravated sexual battery for two incidents that occurred at Oliver Hall on October 25.  He is accused of touching the leg of a victim in a sexual manner and later putting his hand in the pants of another victim.

    Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announces that Marquis J. Young, 27, was transferred from the Johnson County Jail to the Douglas County Jail and will have a first appearance today at 3:30 p.m. in the Pro Tem Division of the Douglas County District Court.

    Attached is a copy of the complaint with the charges filed against Young.  Young is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The charges are merely allegations of criminal conduct.

    Douglas County Courthouse elevator is planned to be out of service Wednesday, October 19, 2016 through Monday, October 24, 2016.  The first, second and third floors of the Douglas County Courthouse, at 1100 Massachusetts St. in Lawrence, will not be accessible by elevator during that time period.  All services will be available for citizens with disabilities on the lower level from October 19th through the 24th.  The project is planned to be completed by Tuesday, October 25th.
