Party Change Deadline
By law, party affiliation is locked from June 1st to Sept 1st of even years. A voter who wants to change their party affiliation must do it by June 1st. Unaffiliated voters are not impacted by this deadline, they can become affiliated during the primary.
Filing Deadline

Voting and Elections
The Douglas County Clerk serves as the County's Election Officer with the responsibility for the planning and operation of all elections held in the county (as required by Kansas Statutes and Administrative regulations) and maintains all records relating to such elections.
A constitutional question has been added to the ballot for the primary election held on August 4, 2026. Click the button below to see the full text of the proposed constitutional amendment.
Jamie Shew
County Clerk
Jamie Shew was elected County Clerk and County Election Officer for Douglas County, Kansas in 2004 and is currently serving his sixth term. Prior to his election, he worked in higher education administration and business management.
Jamie is active in the Election Center, Kansas Association of Counties, Bipartisan Policy Center Task Force on Elections, and the Kansas County Clerks & Elections Officials Association, where he served as president in 2014–15. He serves on the U.S. Election Assistance Commission Standards Board and U.S. EAC Local Leadership Council, and co-chairs the Election Center Legislative Committee.
