The Douglas County Heritage Conservation Council will hold a grant workshop on Thursday, January 22nd encouraging potential grant applicants to learn more about the new guidelines and criteria for the 2015 Douglas County Natural & Cultural Heritage Grant Program cycle. The meeting will be at the Carnegie Center, 200 West 9th Street in Lawrence at 7 p.m. This year the Heritage Council promotes the conservation of our cultural and natural heritage to honor our past, enrich our present, and inspire our future.
County Courthouse History
Founded in August 25, 1855, Douglas County was one of the first counties organized in Kansas and, for many years, was one of the most populace and wealthy counties in the state. But it still did not have a courthouse at the close of the 19th century.
