Former Lawrence Man Sentenced for September 2016 Rape

April 4, 2019 11:02 am

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announces that former Lawrence resident Albert N. Wilson, 23, was sentenced yesterday (4/3/2019) after being found guilty at his January 2019 jury trial for crimes committed in September of 2016. The Court sentenced Wilson to the mitigated sentence of 147 months for rape by force or fear. As part of his sentence Wilson will be subject to lifetime post release supervision and lifetime sex offender registration.

On September 15, 2016 police were assigned to investigate a sexual assault that occurred at a house in Lawrence, Kansas in the early morning hours of September 11, 2016. Officers met with the victim who said she met the suspect while at the Jayhawk Café, a local bar, with her cousin. Wilson separated the victim from her cousin and then led her away to his house where he raped her. The victim repeatedly told Wilson “No,” and that she was “too drunk.” Investigation by the Lawrence Police Department led to the identification of Wilson and resulted in the filing of criminal charges.

Yesterday’s sentencing hearing was held in the courtroom of the Honorable Sally D. Pokorny. The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department and was prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Amy McGowan.
