When will I be notified of the value of my property?

Notices of value are sent to the owner, as recorded in the Register of Deeds office, by March 1 for real property.

Who must sign the rendition?

Every person, association, company or corporation required to list property must personally sign the rendition. If a rendition is completed by a tax preparer, they must also sign the rendition.

Who needs to list personal property for taxation?

Every person, association, company or corporation must list any personal property that they own or control. If they control any personal property belonging to others, they must list the property in the owner's name with the county appraiser.

What are the eligibility requirements for the Behavioral Health Court program?

  • The defendant must be a resident of Douglas County, Kansas.
  • The defendant must be 18 years of age or older.
  • The defendant meets the criteria for several mental illnesses.

  • Connect criminal defendants who suffer from serious mental illness to treatment and support services in the community.

What happens if I graduate the Behavioral Health Court program?

Upon successful completion of the Behavioral Health Court program, the court will dismiss the participant's charges, and the participant will be eligible to petition for immediate expungement of the arrest.

What will exclude a client from being able to participate in the Behavioral Health Court program?

While each case is considered individually, people with the following offenses will typically be excluded from BHC:

  1. Felony sex offenses.
  2. Unresolved out of county charges.
  3. Murder and Manslaughter charges.
When will the Behavioral Health Court accept a new referral?

Behavioral Health Court will accept referrals after the filing of criminal charges and the case has been forwarded to the Douglas County District Court for further disposition.

Are there any restrictions on the general public’s access to Law Library resources?

No. During public hours, all patrons of the Library have full access to all the Library’s electronic and print resources.

Are there opportunities to volunteer in the Law Library?

Yes. The Law Library offers a number of opportunities for those interested in volunteering. You can go to the Law Library website page and read the paragraph 'Volunteer Opportunities'

Can attorneys make photocopies in the Law Library?

Yes. Attorneys may make photocopies utilizing our honors system. Photocopies and prints are 10¢ per page.

Can attorneys print from the Law Library's workstations?

Yes. Attorneys may print from the Library's patron workstations. When Library staff members are available, the attorney can pay them for prints. When no staff members are available, prints can be paid for on the honors system utilizing a change box located by the printer/copier.  …

Can I check books out from the Law Library?

No. The Michael J. Malone Douglas County Law Library is a non-circulating library. All Law Library materials must remain in the Library.

Can members of the general public make photocopies in the Law Library?

It depends on where you live and where you work.
