Can I record documents with the Douglas County Register of Deeds if the property referred to is not located in the county?
No. The Douglas County Register of Deeds only records documents that pertain to Douglas County properties. The only exception to this would be a multi-county document where one or more of the properties affected are in Douglas County. Can I use an abbreviated legal description on a deed?

How do I add an owner to my real estate property?

How do I change my deed?
Once a document has been recorded it cannot be changed. Recorded documents are assigned a book and page number in the Register of Deeds office where that document will be stored permanently. The most reliable solution is to contact a surveyor who can determine the corners of your property, then tie off string lines to mark the property lines. How far back do Douglas County property records go?

How long will it take for a deed or other document to be processed and returned to me?
Documents are processed immediately upon presentation (excepting some surveys and plats).  Documents that are presented in person will be returned within 5-10 minutes.  Military Discharge papers may require up to an addition 15 minutes to process.  Documents received by mail will be sent out for return on the following business day.  Read Full Answer
