Documents are processed immediately upon presentation (excepting some surveys and plats). Documents that are presented in person will be returned within 5-10 minutes. Military Discharge papers may require up to an addition 15 minutes to process. Documents received by mail will be sent out for return on the following business day.
The Register of Deeds records documents but the County Clerk transfers the ownership. Deeds are considered recorded immediately. However, the County Clerk reviews all deeds for accuracy before transferring ownership. If there is an error ownership will not transfer.
Documents received via United States Postal Service, UPS, FedEx, or other mail services are recorded the day they are received in our office and will be mailed back the following business day. Hand-delivered documents are recorded immediately and returned to the customer immediately except for plats and surveys which are retained by the Register of Deeds.
