Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez today announced that Shawn Anthony Daniels, 42, of Lawrence, was sentenced Thursday to 18 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for aggravated assault.
Charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on January 23, 2024, when police were called to an apartment complex in the 1500 block of W. 25th Court in Lawrence. Residents reported that Daniels was threatening residents as they entered the building and later entered another resident’s apartment where Daniels took several items before trying to strike the resident and pointing a firearm at the resident.
“The impact of a violent crime is felt throughout our community and each of us deserves to feel safe,” District Attorney Valdez said. “By working with law enforcement, we will ensure public safety.”
Judge Amy Hanley also sentenced Daniels, who pleaded no contest in March 2024, to 12 months post-release supervision.
Senior Assistant District Attorney Adam Carey represented the State of Kansas. The matter was investigated by the Lawrence Kansas Police Department.
