Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez today announced that Darren L. Henry, 31, of Topeka, was sentenced to 216 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for aggravated robbery in the armed holdup of a local convenience store.
“The use of a firearm when committing a criminal act is a serious threat to the public and erodes our sense of safety and security in our community,” District Attorney Valdez said.
Judge Stacey Donovan also sentenced Henry to 36 months of post-release supervision.
In January, a jury found Henry guilty of the charge that stemmed from an incident that occurred on September 5, 2017, at a Kwik Shop located in the 800 block of Mississippi Street. Henry pointed a gun at the store’s clerk while grabbing money from a cash register before fleeing the store.
Senior Assistant District Attorney Ricardo Leal represented the State. The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
