Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez today announced that Bailey Jarrett Raby, 26, of Lawrence, was sentenced to 12 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.

“Individuals who unlawfully possess firearms must be held accountable in our efforts to end gun violence and ensure public safety,” District Attorney Valdez said.

Charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on September 20, 2023, when Raby was a passenger in a vehicle that had been stopped by the Lawrence Police Department in the 1800 block of W. 23rd Street. Officers spotted a firearm located between Raby’s feet. Raby had previously been convicted of a felony count of burglary of a dwelling in Jackson County, Kan.

Judge Amy Hanley also sentenced Raby, who had pleaded guilty in February 2024, to 12 months post-release supervision.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Adam Carey represented the State of Kansas. The matter was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department.
