Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez today announced that Sarah N. Larkin, 36, of Leavenworth, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated intimidation of a witness/victim and a misdemeanor count of unlawful discharge of a firearm in relation to a 2022 incident.

In addition, Larkin entered guilty pleas Friday to a felony count of burglary (non dwelling) and a misdemeanor count of theft for entering the office of a car lot located in the 900 block of N. Third Street on August 9, 2022.

“Ms. Larkin’s choices put our community at great risk and the results could have been deadly,” District Attorney Valdez said. “Ms. Larkin now faces accountability for her actions.”

Charges from the firearm-related convictions stemmed from an incident that occurred on July 7, 2022, in the 800 block of Michigan Street where Larkin discharged a firearm in a vehicle driven by an acquaintance who refused to take Larkin to an address unknown by the driver. The driver was able to wrestle away the gun and was uninjured.

Senior Assistant District Attorney David Greenwald represented the State of Kansas. The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department.

Judge Stacey Donovan set Larkin’s sentencing for 4 p.m., on April 26, 2024, at the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center.

Larkin faces a maximum possible sentence of 60 months in the Kansas Department of Correction for the firearm-related convictions and a maximum possible sentence of 34 months in the burglary case.
