Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez today announced that Stephen Tyler Wampler, 28, of Lawrence, was sentenced to a total of 70 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) for two counts of attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child and one count of furnishing alcohol to a minor.

“We will continue to aggressively prosecute those who exploit children in our community,” District Attorney Valdez said. “We all have a continuing obligation to do everything we can to ensure that the most vulnerable members of our community are protected.”

Judge Sally Pokorny sentenced Wampler, who pleaded guilty in September 2023, to 34 months for the first count of attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child, 31 months for the second count, and five months for furnishing alcohol to a minor. All sentences, to be served in the KDOC, will be served consecutively. Wampler will be subject to lifetime registration as a sex offender and was sentenced to 24 months post-release supervision.

Charges stemmed from incidents in July 2022 when Wampler provided alcohol to the then 15-year-old girl and attempted to engage in sexual intercourse with the minor while at his home. Wampler was employed as the minor’s manager at a Lawrence fast food restaurant at the time of the crime.

Deputy District Attorney Joshua Seiden represented the State of Kansas. The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department.
