Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez today announced that Michael Alexander Hormell of Lawrence today pled to amended charges of burglary of a dwelling, a Level 7 person felony, and two counts of criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, each being Level 8 non-person felonies.

Hormell, 21, faces 11-34 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections on the burglary charge and 7-23 months in KDOC on the gun possession charges.

“This office continues to send a clear message that there is zero tolerance for gun violence in our community,” said Valdez.

Sentencing is scheduled for 3 p.m. May 19, 2022. This matter was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
