Lawrence man sentenced to 8 months for felony interference with law enforcement, misdemeanor assault

Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez today announced that Robert Brothers Jr., 19, of Lawrence was sentenced to seven months in the Kansas Department of Corrections and one month in the Douglas County Correctional Facility. He was placed on a 12-month term of probation and was ordered to complete a domestic violence assessment and any recommended treatment.

“Crimes involving domestic violence and firearms are among the most serious offenses we prosecute,” Valdez said. “Public safety and the dignity of victims and survivors are paramount.”

Brothers was convicted of misdemeanor assault with a domestic violence designation and felony interference with law enforcement on Sept. 23, 2021.

The sentence was suspended pending successful completion of probation. Additionally, Brothers received credit for time served, leaving 15 days of his sentence. He also must pay costs and fees of $450.

The state was represented by Valdez and Deputy District Attorney Joshua Seiden. The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department.
