Senior Road Superintendent

Location: Kanwaka Township, Kansas

Position Overview

Kanwaka Township is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Road Superintendent to oversee and manage the township’s road maintenance and infrastructure projects. This role involves planning, coordinating, and ensuring the effective upkeep of local roads, supervising road crews, and working closely with township officials to meet community needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance Oversight: Supervise and manage all road maintenance activities, including grading, snow removal, hauling gravel, mowing, replacing repairing tubes, weekly checking all roads including signs and documenting.
  • Preplanning: Making sure all equipment is in good working condition and ready to go especially, before snow and ice storms.
  • Building and Grounds Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep of township maintenance buildings, Kanwaka Hall, and related facilities, and ensure that grounds are properly mowed and landscaped. Also keeping the Hall calendar and reservations.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and direct a team of road crew workers, providing training, guidance, and performance evaluations.
  • Project Planning: Develop and implement road maintenance schedules and improvement projects, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. Report to the Kanwaka Trustee and Kanwaka Township Board monthly updates of projects completed and future projects.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all roadwork complies with township, state, and federal safety regulations, and maintain proper records and documentation.
  • Equipment Management: Oversee the maintenance and efficient use of road maintenance equipment and vehicles.
  • Correspondence: Work with Township patrons on concerns they have and dealing with them in a timely manner.
  • On Call Time: Be on call to answer phone calls and respond to road needs as directed by the trustee. If not available, make sure to check with other employees and let the trustee know who is available. (Does not happen very often)

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in road maintenance, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Familiarity with local and state road regulations and standards.
  • You must possess a Class A CDL driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and perform manual labor as needed.
  • Be Proficient in working with excel, word and any other computer programs needed.
  • Live within a reasonable distance to Kanwaka Township
  • Be on call as needed

Pay range of $35-$45 per hour.
