Updates to dashboards give public snapshot of current jail population, allow for exporting of data

An updated dashboard provides a snapshot of the current population of the Douglas County Correctional Facility, including demographic data, time served in custody, judicial status and the type of arresting offense.

The dashboard supplements existing dashboards released earlier this year that provided cumulative data back to 2017 on bookings into the Douglas County Correctional Facility, bond types and bond amounts and information pertaining to the Douglas County Stepping Up Initiative, which aims to reduce incarceration rates for people with serious mental illness.

As part of the update, the public can also download and export underlying data from the bookings dashboard, which would allow community members to conduct their own analysis as well.

“This next dashboard continues our commitment to being as transparent as we can with our community about the jail population,” Sheriff Jay Armbrister said. “The more information we can provide and analyze as a community, the better chance we have to develop solutions that can help us reduce our incarceration rate and make progress on creating opportunities that seek to provide a high quality of life for everyone in Douglas County.”

Armbrister and Douglas County Data Analyst Matt Cravens will present the updates and new functionality of the dashboards as part of the Douglas County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council's regular meeting, 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 14. The meeting is available by Zoom webinar.

The Inmate Population Dashboard will be updated weekly with data from the DCCF’s jail management system, and it will provide a snapshot with data that includes:

  • Total population in custody and demographic breakdown of the population;
  • Length of time served and average time served among the current population;
  • Offense type and breakdown of the county of residence and education level of people in custody;
  • And, most serious offense classification and judicial status of the population.

The dashboards are available at DGSO.org and the CJCC Hub at dgcoks.gov/cjcchub.
