Douglas County buildings are open to the public. The public should wear a face covering when inside buildings and maintain six feet of distance between employees and others in the building. Departments and elected officials may have additional screening tools for clients and visitors, depending on the services provided.

Lone Star Lake campgrounds, restrooms and the swimming beach are open. Visitors should practice good hygiene and social distancing. The Douglas County Fairgrounds is accepting reservations for those who would like to use a building, but they must meet public health guidelines.

“We continue to encourage people to use online services when possible to help protect employees and the community from COVID-19,” County Administrator Sarah Plinsky said. “Our community has done a great job of following public health guidelines and we hope that continues.”

The Treasurer’s Office locations remain closed to walk-in public traffic. These locations include the Courthouse, two satellite offices in Lawrence and one satellite office in Baldwin City. Residents are encouraged to conduct business online or by mail. There are three options to renew vehicle tags:

  • Online at: ikan.ks.gov
  • Mail to: P.O. Box 884, Lawrence, KS 66044
  • Place in the drop box at the County Courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts Street, (in the south parking lot) or 2000 W. 31st St. (at the east end of the parking lot).

Residents who purchased a new or used vehicle can schedule an appointment for an in-person visit at the County Courthouse. Currently, the wait for an appointment is about two weeks. To make an appointment, call 785-832-5273.
