The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office became aware of an issue that arose with the digital ticket system used by the Kansas Highway Patrol and overseen by the Office of Judicial Administration (OJA). With the closure of the Douglas County District Court this past Spring due to COVID-19, all tickets issued by Kansas Highway Patrol during that time were set on the first available court date in July. The digital ticket system never moved on to the next hearing date.
As a result of this issue with the digital ticket calendar, 166 cases are set on the traffic docket on July 10, 2020, in traffic court in Douglas County District Court. This information is being released in order to notify anyone that has a citation scheduled for court that morning.
If you are scheduled for a traffic court matter the morning of July 10, 2020 in the Douglas County District Court, there is likely going to be a wait of several hours. However, many traffic citations can be addressed prior to that date without an appearance in court. Individuals seeking to resolve their citation, or request a continuance, are encouraged to contact the Douglas County District Attorney’s Traffic Division at 785-838-2443 or datraffic@dgcoks.gov.
We ask everyone attending the July 10th docket to please be mindful of social distancing. We also ask that all individuals wear a mask while in the courthouse.
