DA’s Office Reaches Out to Residents with Continued Traffic Cases: Hopes to Avoid Long Wait Times When District Court Reopens

May 21, 2020 12:42 pm

Updated: August 9, 2022 3:42 pm

The COVID-19 pandemic required the closure of Douglas County District Court earlier this spring. All traffic cases scheduled before June 1, 2020 on the Traffic Docket, held every Friday morning in the ProTem Division, were continued. The Court has since mailed notices and new dates to all of the impacted individuals. When District Court reopens in June, individuals with traffic cases will likely face significant wait times during the Traffic Docket.

In an effort to reduce long wait times and any further impact on our residents, the District Attorney’s Office would like residents to know that many traffic cases can be resolved prior to and without the need to attend a court hearing. Please be aware this possibility applies only to traffic cases. Examples of these traffic cases include, but are not limited to, traffic tickets for:

  • Speeding;
  • Expired registration;
  • No proof of insurance;
  • And more.

If you would like more details, please reach out to our Traffic Attorneys. They will be happy to work with you and provide you information on possible resolutions. E-mail them directly at datraffic@dgcoks.gov or call them at (785) 838-2443. To ensure our Traffic Attorneys can provide you the most efficient assistance please be certain to include the following information in your message:

  • Your first and last name;
  • The best number to call you;
  • Your traffic case number, but only if you already have it. Example: 2020-TR-123
