Douglas County working to create hub for human services

The one-story brick building with a partial basement located at 2518 Ridge Court in Lawrence has a long history with Douglas County. The approximately 25,000-square-foot building was built in 1960 and then owned and operated by the County as a care home for aging residents for many years.

In 1996, the building transitioned into a space for direct human service providers and other agencies.

Recently, the County took over direct managerial responsibilities with the goal of advancing the great work being done by the existing agencies on site and creating a more vibrant hub for human services. “There is a need in the Douglas County community to increase accessibility to vital safety net services and 2518 Ridge Court serves as the perfect conduit to do so,” said County Administrator Sarah Plinsky.

Space is available in the building at reduced lease rates to Douglas County agencies that provide direct human services to the community. If any direct human service agency is interested in renting office space in the building, contact County Administration Intern Davianna Humble at dhumble@dgcoks.gov.

The building currently houses: American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Child Care Aware, ECKAN, Head Start, Housing and Credit Counseling, Tenants to Homeowners, The Arc of Douglas County and Self Advocate Coalition of Kansas.
