Additional one-mile section of Route 458 to be closed

August 8, 2018 1:20 pm

Beginning Tuesday, August 14, Route 458 (N 1000 Road) will be closed from Route 1057 (E 1900 Road) to E 2000 Road.  This additional one-mile closure will extend the Route 458 closure length to two miles.  Route 458 is currently closed between E 1800 Road and Route 1057.  Route 1057, E 1800 Road and E 1900 Road will all remain open for north-south traffic.

The two-mile closure is for construction of safety improvements including replacing narrow culverts, flattening roadside slopes near those culverts, and removing some trees from the right-of-way.  Douglas County will receive High Risk Rural Road (HRRR) federal funding for the project through KDOT.  HRRR funding will cover 90% of the construction costs for the roadside safety improvements.  The project also includes pavement rehabilitation for which Douglas County is responsible for 100% of the costs.

KDOT opened bids for the project, and awarded a contract to Bettis Asphalt & Construction, Inc. in the low bid amount of $1,331,801.00.  Douglas County’s Capital Improvement Program is funding the necessary local matching costs and the full costs of pavement rehabilitation.
