Route 458 south of Clinton Dam will be closed to through traffic on Thursday, June 8, at 8:00 AM.  Route 458 will remain open to through traffic through June 7.  Douglas County’s contractor, King’s Construction, is currently working on portions of the project that are not in the existing road alignment.  .

Work has begun on Phase 1 of the project.  Phase 1 work involves constructing the three new realigned curves and new culverts offset from the existing road alignment and replacing culverts in the existing N 1000 Road portion of Route 458 between E 850 Road and E 1000 Road.  Following Phase 1, Phase 2 work will involve additional culvert replacements in the existing E 1000 Road portion of Route 458 north of N 1000 Road.  Once the road is closed to through traffic next week, we anticipate Route 458 being closed to through traffic through September 2017.

A signed detour follows US-59 highway to US-56 highway to Route 1029 (E 550 Road). Local access to properties within the road closure will be maintained throughout the duration of the project, although available property access routes will change depending on current work activities.

This fall, after culverts have been replaced, Route 458 will be opened to traffic through the construction zone.  Two-way traffic will be carried on two narrow lanes with a 35-mph work zone speed limit, and no passing will be allowed.  Bicycle traffic is prohibited throughout the project duration.

This major rehabilitation project will realign curves, add paved shoulders, rehabilitate the pavement, replace narrow drainage structures, and improve roadside safety.  Phase 2 work includes shoulder construction along the south and east sides of the road.  Phase 3 work includes constructing the north and west road shoulder.  Phase 4 includes final pavement surfacing, pavement markings, and seeding.  It is currently anticipated the full project will be completed in late spring 2018.

Additional project information can be found on the project’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Route458/

This construction project is funded by Douglas County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP).  The Board of County Commissioners awarded the construction contract to King’s Construction, who submitted the low bid of $4,757,901.73.
