Beginning Monday, September 21, Route 1055 (Haskell Ave. extended; E 1700 Road) will be closed to traffic between N 1175 Road and N 1250 Road for road reconstruction and bridge rehabilitation work.  The Route 1055 closure will occur immediately following the opening to traffic of relocated Louisiana Street (E 1400 Road; new Michigan Street) south of 31st Street.  The Route 1055 closure will last into December 2015.

There will be no signed detour for the Route 1055 closure.  Road users should use alternate routes.  Alternate routes include US-59 highway to 31st Street, or E 1400 Road to the newly-opened Michigan Street, i.e. relocated Louisiana Street, to 31st Street.  Route 1057 (E 1900 Road) and K-10 may be a desired alternate route for traffic between southern Douglas County and east Lawrence. (Note: Commercial truck traffic is prohibited on E 1400 Road south of the Wakarusa River.)

Route 1055 north of the Wakarusa River will be reconstructed to provide concrete pavement and shoulders from the south end of the new construction on relocated-Haskell to the north end of the Route 1055 bridge over the Wakarusa River. During this closure, the Route 1055 bridge over the Wakarusa River will also undergo rehabilitation work.

KDOT will fund the Route 1055 reconstruction from the south end of the new construction on relocated-Haskell to the tie-in point on existing Route 1055, which is located approximately 960 feet north of the Route 1055 bridge over the Wakarusa River.  Douglas County will fund the remaining approximately 960’ of Route 1055 reconstruction as well as rehabilitation work on the Wakarusa River bridge.

The Douglas County portion of the project is funded by Douglas County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP).  The Board of County Commissioners awarded the contract to King Construction (Hesston, KS), who submitted the low bid of $672,251.50.
