Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announced today Topeka resident Robert Lee Davis, 39, plead guilty to aggravated burglary and theft in Douglas County District Court.  The crimes were committed in October 2013. 

Investigation into the case began when an officer with the Lawrence Police Department was dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Ohio on Sunday, October 6, 2013.  The officer met with a victim who told him she was asleep in her basement bedroom the night before when she was awakened by someone entering the room with a cell phone flashlight.  She was able to give the officer a very good description of the intruder.  A second resident of the home reported her Discover credit card was stolen during the same burglary.  The second victim was able to advise the officer that the card had been used multiple times at Topeka area businesses.  Officers performed follow-up investigations at the businesses where the stolen card was used.  They were able to review video recordings that were obtained at the businesses and were able to identify Mr. Davis as their suspect.

Mr. Davis, will be sentenced on March 25 at 4:00 p.m.  The state will recommend a seven year prison sentence to the Court.  His actual sentence will be determined by the judge at the sentencing hearing.

The Honorable Sally D. Pokorny presided over the case.  It was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department and it was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Eve Kemple.
