Hosted By: Kansas Land Trust
Join the Wells Farm owners and the Kansas Land Trust for the inaugural Wells Farm Celebration & Walk. The event is 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Wells Overlook Park, 1373 N. 1000 Road, south of Lawrence.
For six generations, Ken Lassman’s family has called Wells Farm home. He and his wife, Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg, dedicated 35 years to preserving its 130 acres of restored tallgrass prairie, ecologically significant habitat, and deep cultural and natural heritage.
The event begins at 2 p.m. at Wells Overlook Park’s Polaris Pavilion — an accessible space — where participants will enjoy refreshments and engaging discussions.
Ken Lassman will share the farm’s history and habitat significance, Daniel Lassman will outline lifetime prairie and woodland restoration plans, and Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg will explore the healing power of writing from the prairie. Musician and Wells Farm dweller Maria Anthony will also be performing an original song written for this land.
An optional walk on the land begins at 3:30 p.m. Led by Ken Lassman and biodiversity expert Hank Guarisco.
The Wells Farm voluntary conservation project is a recipient of a Douglas County Natural and Cultural Heritage grant.
This is a free event with limited capacity. To register, visit the Kansas Land Trust website.
