Looking for volunteer opportunities in Douglas County? The Senior Resource Center, United Way of Kaw Valley and Douglas County are hosting a Volunteer Expo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St., in Flory Meeting Hall. 

Attendees can learn about and connect with 40 local nonprofits at the event, which is being held in conjunction with National Day of Service.

The National Institute on Aging Reports that those who volunteer regularly experience reduced stress, blood pressure, lower rates of depression and anxiety, and improved cognitive health. Individuals who volunteer even have lower mortality rates.
