Emergency Management is hosting an Extreme Heat Readiness Workshop to help the community prepare for an influx of soccer fans this summer. The training is geared toward local businesses, chambers of commerce, event organizers, leaders of sporting and recreation events, and communications professionals. The free training will cover heat-related illnesses, National Weather Service alerts, safe operational adjustments, effective communication during extreme heat and group discussions around action plans during real-world “what-if” scenarios. The event is offered in partnership with Lawrence-Douglas County Fire and Medical, Douglas
County Sustainability, National Weather Service, Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health, and Lawrence Parks, Recreation and Culture. The workshop takes place Monday, March 9 from 9 a.m. to noon, in Flory Meeting Hall at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St. Registration is open now through March 4 at https://dgcoks.gov/form/heatworkshop
