Available classes and presentations:

Until Help Arrives: Douglas County Emergency Management offers a free training opportunity for the general public to help community members help each other in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. This presentation provides a thorough, 3 hour training program followed by a survey and a certificate. 

This program teaches individuals to accomplish three things: 
     1. State the steps you can take when responding to a life-threatening situation,
     2. List different reactions you may have in a stressful situation, and
     3. Understand the importance of practice and rehearsal to improve your response to a life-threatening situation.
From calling 9-1-1, to stopping bleeding, positioning the injured, and providing comfort, you can make a difference. During the midst of an emergency, preparedness can help remake what it means to be a bystander.

Stop the Bleed: This 2-hour course teaches the basics of helping the injured and bleeding. 

Mini-CERT Class: This free class, originally created to help prepare and give emergency response tools to the access and functional needs populations of the county, has recently been expanded to provide preparedness and response information to any interested group.  The course is given over the span of four weeks.  One 2-hour session is held per week. This class is a smaller version of our longer and more in-depth CERT Weekend Class. 

Emergency Preparedness Presentation: Emergency Management staff are available for presentations on a range of severe weather and other emergency preparedness topics. 

Emergency Plan Review for Businesses: Emergency Management staff can review the following: 

• Your building/facility emergency plan (severe weather specifics and general sections), including a walk-through of your facilities and setting up with emergency alerts or a weather radio (at cost) as needed. 
  • Specialized sections outside of emergency management will be coordinated with appropriate agencies
• Your Continuity of Operations Plan
• Your large special event emergency plan to include severe weather safety and general sections
  • Specialized sections outside of emergency management will be coordinated with appropriate agencies
