7th Judicial Court of Kansas
The District Court Judge Pro Tem is a full-time judicial position appointed by the Chief Judge pursuant to K.S.A. 20-310a. The District Court Judge Pro Tem presides over a range of cases as assigned. The District Court Judge Pro Tem position is funded by Douglas County, Kansas and is subject to the Rules Relating to the Kansas Court Personnel System and the Kansas Supreme Court Rules of Judicial Conduct.
Job Duties
- Serve as a full-time judicial officer presiding over District Court cases as assigned by the Chief Judge.
- Conduct hearings in accordance with all applicable laws and court rules.
- Issue written and oral rulings.
- Supervise an administrative assistant.
- Communicate and collaborate with judges, court staff, county officials, attorneys, justice partners, agencies, and the public to ensure effective court operations.
- Perform other related judicial duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited four-year college or university.
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Member of the Kansas Bar in good standing.
- Minimum 5 years as a licensed, practicing attorney.
- Strong legal skills including knowledge of the law, legal writing and research, application of the rules of evidence, decision making, and organization.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse groups of people including judges, county officials, attorneys, and the public.
- Douglas County residents preferred.

Starting Salary and Benefits: Salary range: $110,000 - $135,000 commensurate with experience.
