The Douglas County Heritage Conservation Council is conducting an intensive historic resources survey of downtown Baldwin City. A public information meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Baldwin City Public Library, 800 Seventh St., with survey consultants to provide details about the survey and answer questions. The work consists of research, field survey and a project report. The survey focuses on buildings and structures that are at least 50 years old. The goal is to identify architecturally, historically or culturally significant buildings and structures. Stan Hernly, Megan Bruey and Jan Shupert-Arick, all of Hernly Associates, will conduct the survey.
The study area includes approximately 30 buildings and is bounded by: Ninth Street (west), Sixth Street (east), Grove Street (north), and the alley south of High Street.
Please contact Stan Hernly at (785) 749-5806, if you have questions about the project or have historical information about your property to share.
