  3. Mission and Policy Discussion (6:00-6:45pm)
    • History of the FPC
    • Review of FPC mission
    • State policy brief with guests:
      1. Senator Marci Francisco
      2. Representative Eileen Horn        
  4. Potluck Dinner (6:45-7:30pm)
  5. Working Group Initiative Briefs and Break-Out Sessions (7:30-8:30pm)
    • Brief summary of WG initiatives in last year and ongoing
    • Members organize themselves according to preferred Goal areas
      1. Self-prioritize 3-5 Goal strategies
      2. Working Group synthesis of emerging themes: Where is the policy angle?
  6. Working Group Report Out to Full Council (8:30-8:45pm)
    • Identify at least one new or continuing policy area to work on this year
  7. Wrap-up and Next Steps (8:45-9:00pm)
    • Be sure to schedule 2020 WG meeting dates and times!

      • Welcomed newly appointed members:
        1. City Appointees: Melissa Freiburger, Elizabeth Keever, Rolf Petermann

    • State policy brief with guests:
      • Senator Marci Francisco
        1. The Senator would like to learn what services County farmers really need. She would like to hear from FPC/Extension to work on next year.
        2. Raw Milk labeling no longer as restrictive, make commodity more accessible to small farms.
        3. Potential food tax credit for low-income residents. Would be refundable, not just a credit on taxes owed as it is now.
      • Representative Eileen Horn        
        1. Bill to prevent any regulations on single-use plastics of all kinds would impact waste reduction efforts locally with food service and retail.
        2. Bill to label imitation/plant-based meat: “Does not contain meat.”

  5. Working Group Initiative Briefs and Break-Out Sessions (7:30-8:30pm)
    • Brief summary of WG initiatives in last year and ongoing
    • Members organize themselves according to preferred Goal areas
      • Self-prioritize 3-5 Goal strategies
      • Working Group synthesis of emerging themes: Where is the policy angle?
  6. Working Group Report Out to Full Council (8:30-8:45pm)
    • Identify at least one new or continuing policy area to work on this year
      • Working groups reported central themes, priorities:
        1. Aggies: Continued Farmers’ Market support; Continued Strategic Growth Initiative input and submission; Host farm tour for elected officials; Prioritize training for jobs in culinary and ag sectors; Work on Goal #3 with Conservation District.
        2. Health Equity: Destigmatize public assistance programs; Prioritize removing transportation barriers; Expand WG membership to include lived experience; Partner with existing efforts (GIS, Health Equity Report, Zoning, Transit).
        3. Forward: Foster culture of reduction; Expand Toolkit to other sectors; Investigate policy opportunities to discourage waste; Assess funding shortages for food recovery; Support compost programs in schools; Expand gleaning initiatives.
