Kansas personal property owners are no longer required to file an annual reporting form, known as a rendition, with the County Appraiser’s Office if there have been no changes.

However, personal property owners are still required to notify the County Appraiser’s Office if there are changes to their personal property. Examples of changes that should be reported include:

• Purchase of new personal property
• Sale of personal property
• Changes in the use
• Changes where the property is stored

According to the new state law, the County Appraiser’s Office isn’t required to mail renditions to property owners. The County Appraiser’s Office staff will now rely on property owners to contact them if there is a change. Personal property includes items such as mobile homes, recreational vehicles, trailers and boats, as well as oil and gas leases. In Douglas County, there are approximately 7,200 personal property accounts.

On Jan. 1, 2025, Douglas County mailed notifications of the change in law as well as a form that can be filed with the Appraiser’s Office to report any changes to the property. The form can be mailed to: Douglas County Appraiser, Attn: Personal Property, 1100 Massachusetts St. Unit 1, Lawrence, KS 66044. It can also be emailed to personalproperty@dgcoks.gov.

There are two electronic options available to report personal property changes:

• Option 1 – Fill out and submit the Personal Property Change Form online, or

• Option 2 – Download the Personal Property Change Form, print and fill out the form, and then return it to the Appraiser’s Office in person or by mail.

To search for personal property records, visit: https://propertyinfo.douglascountyks.org. Personal property can be searched by name address, or quick reference number.

For more information, visit the Appraiser's Office personal property webpage. If residents have questions or need assistance, they can call (785) 832-5292 or email personalproperty@dgcoks.gov.
