Douglas County Public Works announces that, weather permitting, E 1750 Road (North First Street in Baldwin City) between Route 12 (N 400 Road; State Lake Road in Baldwin City) and N 500 Road will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, Oct. 7, for the start of an improvement project. Public Works anticipates the road section will remain closed through the 2019 fall season.

Approximately 2,400 linear feet of E 1750 Road between Route 12 and the northern Baldwin City limits will be reconstructed to improve drainage and to pave the road with asphalt. The Board of County Commissioners awarded a construction contract to King’s Construction in the low bid amount of $537,900 for the work.

Douglas County entered into a three-party agreement with Baldwin City and Palmyra Township for the improvement project. Under terms of the agreement, Douglas County is responsible for 35% of project costs, Baldwin City is responsible for 55% of project costs, and Palmyra Township is responsible for 10% of project costs up to a maximum township cost of $43,000. Baldwin City also formed a benefit district to pay a portion of its share of the costs. Douglas County’s portion of the costs will be paid from its Capital Improvement Program.

** UPDATE: As of Dec. 18, work has been suspended on this project until spring due to the winter weather conditions.
