Route 458 construction to resume March 12 with full road closure

September 26, 2023 9:56 am

Construction will resume March 12, 2018 on the Route 458 major rehabilitation project from E 800 Road to just north of N 1156 Road.  Weather permitting, on March 12 Douglas County’s contractor, King’s Construction, will close Route 458 between N 1050 Road and N 1116 Road for construction of two large culverts near the Route 458/N 1075 Road intersection.  During the Route 458 closure, N 1075 Road and E 1135 Road will be closed to through traffic between E 1000 Road and N 1200 Road.  We anticipate these closures will remain in place for six to eight weeks, weather permitting.

Following the full road closure for the culvert replacements, the road will be opened to traffic through construction during shoulder construction and paving operations for the duration of the project.  During this work, two narrow (11’-wide) traffic lanes, one for each traffic direction, will be open through much of the project length.  Some construction areas may have one lane temporarily closed with traffic controlled by flaggers.  A work zone 35-mph speed limit will be in effect.  The entire project is anticipated to be completed in June 2018, weather permitting.

During the full road closure, a signed detour will be in place.  The detour follows US-59 highway to US-56 highway to Route 1029 (E 550 Road).

Additional project information can be found on the project’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Route458/

This construction project is funded by Douglas County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP).  The Board of County Commissioners awarded the construction contract to King’s Construction, who submitted the low bid of $4,757,901.73.
