During its 6:00 PM meeting on January 3, 2018, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) will discuss planned improvements to Route 1055 from the north leg of the curve at E 1650 Road/N 700 Road to the intersection with E 1700 Road at Vinland.  An improvement project is planned for construction in 2019.  The BOCC meeting is held on the 2nd floor of the county courthouse at 11th & Massachusetts in Lawrence.

In 2005, the Public Works Department studied future Route 1055 improvements between Route 458 (N 1000 Road) and Vinland.  At the time, reconstruction of the E 1650/N 700 curve to a 55-mph curve was recommended, as well as construction of a similar 55-mph curve at the N 700/E 1700 intersection at Vinland.

After recently investigating several different curve options, and even a roundabout at N 700/E 1700, Public Works is recommending to keep the current alignment of the E 1650/N 700 curve.  The recommendation includes adding paved shoulders to the curve and N 700 Road portion of Route 1055, flattening roadside slopes, and increasing clear-zone distances at drainage structures.  Public Works also recommends adding an eastbound right turn lane at the N 700/E 1700 intersection at Vinland rather than construction of a curve or roundabout.

At the January 3 BOCC meeting, the public will be given an opportunity to ask questions and/or express opinions regarding the recommendations for this improvement project.
