The Route 458 curve at N 1000 Road/E 1000 Road will be closed to all traffic beginning Monday, October 2, for an anticipated five week duration, weather permitting.  This additional Route 458 full closure will be from E 950 Road to N 1050 Road.  This closure is in addition to the current Route 458 closure from E 800 Road (Route 1/1039) to E 900 Road.

This additional closure is to complete construction of the realigned 55-mph curve, and to tie the new curve alignment into the existing road west and north of the curve.  The closure also allows constructing the connection of E 1000 Road into the new curve alignment.  The curve at N 1000 Road/E 1000 Road is the third and final realigned 55-mph curve included in Phase 1 project work.

Following construction completion of this third 55-mph realigned curve, Phase 1 will be complete.  Phase 2 and 3 work to construct shoulders west of E 1000 Road has been underway concurrent with Phase 1 work.  Additional Phase 2 work to replace culverts north of N 1000 Road is upcoming this fall.

A signed detour follows US-59 highway to US-56 highway to Route 1029 (E 550 Road). Local access to properties within the road closure will be maintained throughout the duration of the project, although available property access routes will change depending on current work activities.

This major rehabilitation project will realign curves, add paved shoulders, rehabilitate the pavement, replace narrow drainage structures, and improve roadside safety.  Phase 2 work includes shoulder construction along the south and east sides of the road, and replacing drainage structures north of N 1050 Road.  Phase 3 work includes constructing the north and west road shoulder.  Phase 4 includes pavement overlay work, pavement markings, and seeding.  It is currently anticipated the full project will be completed in June 2018.

Additional project information can be found on the project’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Route458/

This construction project is funded by Douglas County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP).  The Board of County Commissioners awarded the construction contract to King’s Construction, who submitted the low bid of $4,757,901.73.
