Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announces that Danny W. Queen, 36, has been charged in Douglas County District Court with one count of Murder in the First Degree for the death of Bo Matthew Hopson, 32, and two counts of attempted Murder in the First Degree. Kansas statute defines Murder in the First Degree as the killing of a human being committed intentionally and with premeditation. It is an off-grid person felony punishable by a sentence of 50 years to life in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections.
The charge stems from a call that was placed to 911 on Saturday, June 24 at approximately 1:07 a.m. reporting that a person had been shot at D-Dub’s Bar at 10 W. 9th Street in Eudora. Upon arrival officers found Danny W. Queen being detained by bar employees, who had disarmed him and called 911. Also present was Bo Matthew Hopson, who had suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and right arm. Hopson was transported by air ambulance to KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, where he succumbed to his wounds on Sunday, June 25.
Queen had his first appearance today in the Pro Tem Division of the Douglas County District Court. His bond was set at $1 million. His next appearance will be on Tuesday, June 27 at 9:30 in Division 6.
All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. Charges are merely allegations of criminal conduct.
