Due to contractor's delay on other projects due to recent rains, the road closure date for Route 458 for the bridge replacement project between E 1600 and E 1700 Roads has been rescheduled.  Route 458 (N 1000 Road) from E 1600 Road to E 1700 Road will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, June 20, for a project to replace the bridge over Coal Creek.  The bridge is located approximately 0.4 miles east of E 1600 Road.  Public Works anticipates the project will be completed and road re-opened to traffic by early November 2016, weather permitting.

During the Route 458 closure, a signed detour will be established.  The detour follows Route 1055 (E 1600 Rd & E 1650 Rd) south to Route 460 (N 700 Rd), thence east to Route 1057 (E 1900 Rd), thence north to Route 458.

Douglas County’s project will replace the existing 67’-span rigid frame bridge over Coal Creek with a 3-span reinforced concrete haunched slab bridge.  The existing bridge is narrow with a 24’ roadway width.  The new bridge will allow for two 12’-wide travel lanes with two 6’-wide paved shoulders.  The new bridge will also increase the waterway capacity of the bridge crossing, and will reduce the frequency of flood waters overtopping Route 458.

The Board of County Commissioners awarded a contract in the amount of $794,978.40 to the low bidder, Bryan-Ohlmeier Construction, for the bridge replacement project.  Funding for the project comes from Douglas County’s Capital Improvement Program.
