Improvements to Route 1055 between N 400 Road and N 700 Road are substantially complete, and this section of Route 1055 will be opened to unrestricted traffic by Friday, October 16.

Minor asphalt surface adjustments are needed, and will be done the week of October 26, weather permitting.  Traffic will be controlled with flaggers through the work areas.  Also, an epoxy coating of the bridge deck 0.1 miles north of N 500 Road will be completed next Spring 2016.

The purpose of the project was to replace the large concrete box culvert approximately 0.1 miles north of N 500 Road with a single-span concrete girder bridge, reconstruct the pavement from N 500 Road to approximately ½-mile north of N 500 Road including paved shoulders, and milling, patching and overlaying the remaining pavement in the three-mile long project length.  The work also included channel stabilization at the bridge 0.1 miles north of N 500 Road and stabilization and erosion protection for steep-graded ditches in the “Baldwin Hill” vicinity between N 400 Road and N 500 Road.  Roadside safety has been improved in the vicinity of the bridge by construction of a bridge rail and approach guard rail.  A separate project constructed earlier this spring included removing trees within the road right-of-way between N 500 Road and N 600 Road, replacing nine narrow culverts, and construction of paved shoulders at the Route 1055/N 600 Road intersection, all with the purpose of improving roadside safety.

The project is funded by Douglas County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) along with $165,000 in funds provided by the US Fish & Wildlife Service for stream channel stabilization work.  The Board of County Commissioners awarded the contract to Hamm, Inc., who submitted the low bid of $1,795,709.10.
