Additional mile of Route 1055 to be closed September 14

September 3, 2015 2:02 pm

The Douglas County Public Works Department announces that beginning Monday, September 14, Route 1055 (E 1700 Road) will be closed to through traffic between N 400 Road and N 600 Road.  The closure beginning September 14 extends by one mile the current Route 1055 closure between N 500 Road and N 600 Road.  The closure of Route 1055 between N 400 Road and N 500 Road is for Phase II project work to rehabilitate the pavement and improve ditches in the one-mile section and to reconstruct the N 500 Road intersection.

This Phase II closure is scheduled for 14 working days.  It is planned to open Route 1055 from N 400 Road to N 500 Road in early October, weather permitting.  The closure will be from the north side of the N 400 Road intersection to the south side of the N 600 Road intersection.  This closure includes the entire Route 1055/N 500 Road intersection.  A signed detour follows US-56 highway, US-59 highway, and Route 460 (N 650 Rd/N 600 Rd).

In addition to the Phase II closure, Phase III construction work will begin Tuesday, September 8.  Phase III work includes replacing entrance pipes along Route 1055 between N 600 Road and N 700 Road.  Traffic will be controlled for this Phase III work by one-lane traffic signs and flaggers.

The purpose of the entire project is to replace the large concrete box culvert approximately 0.1 miles north of N 500 Road with a single-span concrete girder bridge, reconstruct the pavement from N 500 Road to approximately ½-mile north of N 500 Road including paved shoulders, and milling, patching and overlaying the remaining pavement in the three-mile long project length.  The work also includes channel stabilization at the bridge 0.1 miles north of N 500 Road.  Roadside safety will be improved in the vicinity of the bridge by construction of a bridge rail and approach guard rail.  A separate project constructed earlier this spring included removing trees within the road right-of-way between N 500 Road and N 600 Road, replacing nine narrow culverts, and construction of paved shoulders at the Route 1055/N 600 Road intersection.  The entire project is anticipated to be completed by early-November, weather permitting.

The project is funded by Douglas County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) along with $165,000 in funds provided by the US Fish & Wildlife Service for stream channel stabilization work.  The Board of County Commissioners awarded the contract to Hamm, Inc., who submitted the low bid of $1,795,709.10.
