Hosted By: Douglas County Sheriff's Office
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will operate a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day collection site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in the parking lot on the south side of the historic Courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts St. The Sheriff’s Office will accept expired or unused prescription and over-the-counter medications.
The Sheriff’s Office cannot accept needles, sharps or inhalers. Veterinary drugs are accepted. Liquid products, such as cough syrups, should remain sealed in their original container.
The goal behind National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is to provide a safe disposal of unneeded medications from homes to prevent medication misuse or opioid addiction, for example. Using a Take Back site also eliminates improper environmental disposal into the water supply. All items collected are delivered to the DEA to be safely destroyed.
